This page tells you what Trusty Fork does with your information. We wrote it in plain words. If something is not clear, email us.
1. The short version
- Trusty Fork has no account. You never sign in.
- Trusty Fork has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking tools.
- What you type into Trusty Fork is saved only on your phone.
- We never get your health information. We do not have a server that keeps it.
- We never sell your information.
- Only a few small things ever leave your phone. Section 3 lists all of them.
2. What Trusty Fork saves on your phone
Trusty Fork saves the things you choose to enter. This can include:
- About you: a first name if you add one, sex, birth date, height, starting weight, goal weight, and activity level
- Food: meals, foods, amounts, recipes, your own foods, water, and plate photos you take
- Medicine: medicine name, dose, schedule, shot sites, pens or vials, and doses you mark as taken
- How you feel: side effects, appetite, and notes
- Body: weight, body measurements, body fat, and progress photos
- Other tracking you turn on: exercise, steps, sleep, blood sugar, blood pressure, and fasting times
- Settings: reminders, widget, units, and app lock
All of this stays in Trusty Fork's private space on your phone. Other apps cannot read it. We cannot see it.
No cloud backup. Trusty Fork turns off Android cloud backup and phone-to-phone transfer. Your data is not copied to Google Drive or to a new phone. If you lose your phone, reset it, or delete the app, your data is gone. To keep a copy, use Export (see Section 6).
3. What leaves your phone
Trusty Fork first looks for foods in a food list that is built into the app. That search happens on your phone. If the food is not in that list, or if you tap to search online, Trusty Fork looks it up online. Only then does anything leave your phone:
- Food search: the words you type (like "greek yogurt") are sent to:
- Open Food Facts, a free food database, and
- our USDA lookup service. It runs on Cloudflare. It passes your search words to USDA FoodData Central (a U.S. government food database) and sends the answer back. Our lookup service does not keep your search words or your IP address.
- Barcode lookup: only the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts.
Nothing else is sent with these lookups. We do not send your name, health data, food log, location, or any phone ID.
When any phone connects to a website, the website can see the phone's internet address (IP address). Open Food Facts, Cloudflare, and USDA can see it the same way. They follow their own privacy policies:
- Open Food Facts: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy
- Cloudflare: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
- USDA: https://www.usda.gov/privacy-policy
Want nothing to leave your phone? Turn on Offline only in Trusty Fork's Privacy & data screen. Then Trusty Fork makes no lookups online. You can still search the built-in food list and add your own foods.
All lookups use a secure, encrypted connection (HTTPS). Trusty Fork blocks connections that are not secure.
4. Health Connect (step count)
If you say yes, Trusty Fork reads your step count from Health Connect. It shows your steps in the app.
- Trusty Fork only reads steps. It never adds, changes, or deletes anything in Health Connect.
- Your steps stay on your phone. They are never sent to us or anyone else.
- They are never used for ads, never sold, and never used to decide credit, insurance, or jobs.
- You can say no, or turn it off any time in Health Connect settings. The rest of the app still works.
- Trusty Fork's use of Health Connect data follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use rules.
5. Phone permissions, explained
Trusty Fork asks for only these permissions:
| Permission | Why Trusty Fork needs it |
|---|---|
| Camera | To scan food barcodes, and to take plate photos and progress photos if you choose. Barcode reading happens on your phone. Camera pictures used for scanning are not saved or sent. Your photos stay inside Trusty Fork. They do not go to your photo gallery. You can say no and type foods in by hand. |
| Notifications | To show the reminders you set, like a dose reminder. Reminders are made on your phone. They are not sent over the internet. |
| Run at startup | To turn your reminders back on after your phone restarts. |
| Internet and network status | For online food search and barcode lookup (Section 3), and so Google Play can handle purchases (Section 7). |
| Google Play billing | So you can buy Trusty Fork Plus or recipe packs through Google Play. |
| Fingerprint or face unlock | Only if you turn on the app lock. Your phone checks your fingerprint, face, or screen lock. Trusty Fork never sees or saves it. |
| Health Connect: read steps | To show your step count (Section 4). |
Trusty Fork also has an internal Android setting that only Trusty Fork itself can use. It does not give access to any of your data.
Voice typing: if you tap the microphone to say a food, your phone's own speech service turns your voice into words. Trusty Fork does not record sound. It does not ask for the microphone permission. It only gets the words back. The speech service (often Google) follows its own privacy policy.
Reminders and the home screen widget can show on your lock screen or home screen. Other people who see your phone may see them. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone settings.
6. Sharing and exporting
Trusty Fork never shares your data by itself. Data only leaves the app when you choose to share it, like:
- the doctor report (a PDF you can make and share), or
- an export of your data (a file, with photos only if you pick that).
You pick where it goes, like email or a file app. After that, the app or person you send it to has its own privacy rules. Please be careful who you send health information to.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for ads.
7. Purchases (Google Play)
Trusty Fork Plus and recipe packs are sold through Google Play.
- Google handles the payment. We never see your card or bank details.
- Trusty Fork checks your purchases with Google Play on your phone. Your purchase record stays on your phone. We do not keep it on a server.
- Google may process purchase information under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- As the seller, we can see basic order details in our Google Play seller account (like order number, product, price, and date). We use these only for refunds, taxes, legal needs, and helping you if you contact us.
You can cancel a subscription in the Google Play Store app under Payments & subscriptions.
8. How long we keep data, and how to delete it
- Your data stays on your phone until you delete it.
- You can delete single entries in the app.
- Delete everything: go to Privacy & data, then tap Delete all my data. This erases your profile, doses, meals, weights, measurements, photos, fasting history, notes, reminders, and settings. It cannot be undone. To keep the free trial fair, a small note about your free trial and plan stays on the phone. It has no health data.
- Uninstalling Trusty Fork deletes everything, including that note.
- There is no cloud backup, so we cannot get your data back.
- We do not hold a copy of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
9. Keeping your data safe
- Your data is kept in Trusty Fork's private space on your phone. Android keeps other apps out.
- Your phone's lock screen and built-in encryption protect it.
- Online lookups use secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- You can turn on the app lock for more privacy.
- Anyone who can unlock your phone may be able to open Trusty Fork. Keep your phone locked and up to date.
10. Age
Trusty Fork is for adults 18 and older. It is not made for children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. And Trusty Fork does not send your personal information to us at all.
11. Not medical advice
Trusty Fork is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Always talk to a doctor or other health professional for medical advice.
12. Your privacy rights
Some laws give you rights over your data. These include laws in Europe, the UK, and some U.S. states (like Washington's health data law). You may have the right to see, fix, delete, or get a copy of your data.
Your data is only on your phone, so you can do these things yourself in the app:
- See and fix: open and edit your entries.
- Get a copy: use Export or the doctor report.
- Delete: use Delete all my data, or uninstall the app.
For anything else, email us at privacy@trustyfork.com. We will answer.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top. If we make a big change, like sending any new kind of data off your phone, we will also tell you in the app.
Change history
- October 24, 2026: First version of this policy for Trusty Fork.
